Philippsthal (Werra)

Philippsthal stretches picturesquely along the banks of the Werra, with the Ulster flowing into the Werra between the village and the Röhrigshof district. Bad Hersfeld, around 25 km to the west, and Eisenach, around 29 km to the north-east, are the nearest larger towns.

The Hattorf potash plant, part of the Werra potash plant, which belongs to the K+S Group and is a major employer in the region, is located in the immediate vicinity, and the region around Philippsthal offers a variety of cycling and hiking trails. In the nearby surroundings, Philippsthal Castle is well worth a visit, while the orangery in the castle park invites you to linger. The three-aisled monastery church dating back to the 12th century offers an impressive sightseeing opportunity for history buffs.

The town, although small, offers a wealth of tourist attractions. Further information and current event dates can be found at www.philippsthal.de.
